► Truth in Taxation: Information on the District's proposed 2024 Tax Levy

A public hearing to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for Skokie School District 73.5, Cook County, Illinois for 2024 will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the MPR of Oliver McCracken Middle School at 8000 East Prairie Road, Skokie, IL 60076. Any person desiring to appear at the public hearing and present testimony to the taxing district may contact Karen Hayes, Operational Services Coordinator, at Skokie School District Office, 8000 East Prairie Road, Skokie, IL 60076, telephone number 847-676-8317.

The proposal is to approve a levy increase of 4.99 percent in order to capture the maximum amount of taxes on any new property. District 73.5 is tax capped by the consumer price index for levy year 2024. This year’s CPI figure to be used for levy year 2024 is 3.4%. The draft proposal is to approve a levy increase of 4.99 percent in order to capture the 3.4% (CPI) increase plus any taxes on new property. The county will reduce our levy based on the actual new property amount which will be determined next July. The new property trend has shown an average of 1.2 million dollars in new growth for the past 10 years. Historically the District has received CPI and has captured any taxes associated with new property by levying 4.99 percent.
