1:1 Device Take Home Program

Google Workspace & Chromebooks

Skokie School District 73.5 is a Google Workspace school district. Students in grades K-8 and all staff have an account in our Google Workspace domain, which is an integrated communication and collaboration solution hosted by Google and managed by Skokie School District 73.5. Google Workspace serves as the foundation for the District's digital ecosystem. Students and staff can communicate, store files, and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time from school, work, or home.

Skokie School District 73.5 provides every 5th-8th grade student with a Chromebook, which is an Internet device that supports web-based applications. Chromebooks also have Google products built-in and, within seconds of logging in, students can access their personal Google Workspace account and tools.

Students use their Chromebooks in the classroom and can take them home with parent/guardian consent. The Skokie735 Student Device Agreement is provided during e-Registration for parent/guardian review and response.

Safety

Skokie School District 73.5 uses a content filtering system on all District-issued Chromebooks. This feature, commonly referred to as SecURLy (the name of the product vendor) or proxy filter (the type of technology used), filters the student Internet content on the Chromebook regardless of the network to which it is connected (this includes your home network). While this solution is very effective, there is no replacement for rules and supervision of student access to an Internet device.

Internet Access

The District has mobile Internet hotspot devices available for students who do not have Internet access at home. The hotspot can be requested and loaned to qualifying families for the duration of the school year. It must be returned upon request or with the Chromebook at the end of the year.
