Notice of Program Enrollment - Preschool

The message below is a translatable supplement to a letter sent to parents regarding their child's qualification for English Language support.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your child, ______________________ , is enrolled in grade ______ in the TPI program based on their English language proficiency score on the Pre IPT Oral Test:

The Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) Collaboration serves English Learners who are placed in classes with non-ELs. The classroom teacher provides ESL instruction. This program will help your child learn English and the subjects required for grade promotion. We believe this program is the best option to meet your child’s instructional needs and promote academic success.

Your child’s English language proficiency test scores are indicated below:

NES (Non-English Speaking) Working towards English proficiency
LES (Limited English Speaking) Can identify family members and gender, understand number concepts, describe activities, demonstrate understanding of spatial relationships, use plural and present form, use simple prepositions to describe location
FES (Fluent English Speaking) Can do the above, as well as describe wants and personal experiences, follow two and three step directions, describe things with size, express self with present and past tenses, recall and retell events

Program Acceptance 

You do not need to take any action to accept this placement. 

As a parent, you have the right to: 
  • Visit the classes in which your child is enrolled and to meet with the staff to learn more about the program. 
  • Decline enrollment in a program, withdraw your child immediately from the program, or choose another program if available. You may take this action by notifying the school in writing. Declining the recommended program will mean that your child may be placed in a program where English is the dominant language of instruction.
