Skokie School District 73.5 is pleased to introduced several new members of our Administrative Team. Please help us welcome them to their new roles in our schools, district, and community.
Dr. Allison Acevedo is our new Director of Innovation and Educational Technology. Dr. Acevedo recently completed her doctorate in Educational Technology & Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and is certified in Instructional Design. She is also a contributing author in the higher education textbook, Emerging Realities and the Future of Technology in the Classroom and wrote a chapter on gamification in the classroom.
Dr. Acevedo has been in the education field for 15 years. She was a 5th grade teacher at Middleton the past 3 years and prior to joining us at SD73.5, Dr. Acevedo was a classroom teacher in grades Kindergarten, 3-5, 6-8 technology, and gifted education.
“I seek experiences where I can combine my affinity for teamwork with my expertise as an educator in order to best meet the objectives of my position and serve students, families, and the community.”
Angela DeMay, Director of Student Services, joins SD73.5 from the Wilmette Public School District, where she spent the last 3 years as the Assistant Director for Student Services. Before that, DeMay worked for 10 years in special education with the Barrington School District and was the Assistant Department Chair of the Special Education Department at Barrington High School in her final 2 years.
Early in her career, DeMay taught special education at the middle school level. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education and earned a CAS in Educational Administration. DeMay is currently a doctoral candidate at Concordia University working toward a Ph.D. in Educational Administration.
“I feel very fortunate to work in the field of education as I have always felt most at home in the school setting surrounded by other professionals who share my passion for supporting students. I am beyond thrilled to be part of the esteemed District 73.5 Educational Team.”
Lyla Nissan begins her 7th year at SD73.5 in the newly formed position of District English Language (EL) Coordinator. Middleton students and families might recognize Nissan from her previous classroom experience as an Elementary EL Teacher. Prior to working at SD73.5, Nissan taught 6th grade science, social studies, and math. Nissan is fluent in Arabic and Assyrian.
Dan Swartz spent 7 years as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning in Mundelein District 75 before joining SD73.5 as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. He is a founding member of the Grayslake D46 Equity & Inclusion Team and sitting executive board member on the Illinois Association of Latino Administrators & Superintendents
“I am excited to return to my roots in Skokie 73.5 where I went to Middleton and McCracken as a child. It is truly an honor to serve this community that has provided so many wonderful experiences throughout my early years in school.”
Nikki Tammaru is the new Middleton Elementary School Principal. Previously Tammaru was the Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Leadership Development/Learning and Teaching Team Lead at Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205. Tammaru has also taught 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, and been a Reading Specialist, Literacy Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and Principal.
“I found myself missing daily contact with students and teachers and that is why I applied for the role as [Middleton] principal. I am so excited to be back with kids and to work alongside you!”
