Outdoor Recess Weather Reminders

Students participate in outdoor recess throughout the school year unless there is a significant weather-related or other external factor that necessitates an indoor program. Here at McCracken, we use the Child Care Weather Watch system to determine students’ participation in outdoor recess. This guide uses a combination of temperature and wind speed to calculate year-round weather safety for our students. Thank you, in advance, for helping to ensure that your child is prepared with appropriate outerwear for recess so that they are comfortable during our outdoor programming! Families in need of outerwear for their child should contact administration for additional resources.

8th Grade Futures Unlimited Field Trip

Our 8th grade female and gender expansive students will be eligible to attend the Futures Unlimited field trip on Thursday December 15th. Futures Unlimited is a one-day educational program that provides 8th graders with exciting opportunities to explore diverse careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This free program includes sessions with role models composed of women who have achieved success in a variety of non-traditional careers; hands-on workshops led by Oakton Community College faculty, staff, and graduate students; and breakout sessions introducing STEM programming at area high schools. Permission forms were handed out through 8th grade advisories and were due back by Wednesday, October 26th.

Socktober

Socktober is coming to an end on Monday, October 31st! Thank you to all the families who have donated new socks, to go to the Niles Township Clothing Closet! We will share our final count in next week’s Meyer Weekly.

Thank you so much to our Meyer Parent Leaders, who planned and hosted Socktoberfest on Thursday night. The event was a success! We are very grateful to all of our families and McCracken students who volunteered their time at our games, activities, and tables. THANK YOU!

Meyer Picture Retakes

Meyer’s Picture Retakes are scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. If you would like for your child to retake their school picture, please send their Lifetouch picture packet back to school with them on or before November 3rd. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the Meyer Office at 847-673-1223.

Dressing for Outdoor Recess

As we head into colder temperatures, please send your child to school with appropriate outerwear, such as a warm jacket or coat, hat, gloves, and scarf. We will go outside for recess as long as it is not raining. In general, we will go outside if it "feels" like 15 degrees or above and it is not raining/snowing. Please see the Child Care Weather Watch chart that we use to guide our decisions.

You may want to start looking for winter boots and snow pants for your child if you don’t have them yet. We will continue to go outside in the winter whenever we can.

Also, please send a new set of cold-weather emergency clothes in a bag labeled with your child’s name. We will store these in their lockers in case they get wet or extra dirty while playing outside.

Preschool Arrival / Dismissal Reminders

• Arrival for the preschool AM class is 8:25 to 8:30 a.m. Dismissal is at 11:00 a.m.
• Arrival for the preschool PM class is 11:55 a.m to 12:00 p.m. Dismissal is at 2:30 pm.
• Please park in the slanted parking spots on Kildare Avenue. These spots are especially reserved for preschool drop-off and pick-up at Door 2.
• If you park on the street, do not block any driveways even if it is for a few minutes.
• If you park on the street, do not double park or block in other parked cars even if it is for a few minutes.
• There is no parking on the east side of Tripp Avenue. Cars may be ticketed.
