Dear District 73.5 Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members:

In a February 21, 2025, email, the Board of Education shared that they accepted Superintendent Hightower’s resignation and selected Dr. Kaine Osburn and Dr. Keely Roberts to serve as co-interim superintendents for the remainder of the school year.

At a February 25, 2025, special Board meeting, the Board approved hiring the Executive Search firm Hazard, Young, and Attea (HYA) to begin a national search for the next superintendent for District 73.5, to start July 1, 2025. The Board is committed to hiring a top caliber candidate with the right experience and skills to lead District 73.5. If such a candidate does not emerge in this search, interims will be secured for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board will not accept anyone other than who it deems best for our District.

Recently, an online Google petition relating to the superintendent search has been circulating in the community, seeking community member input. That form is not sponsored by the District or HYA. The official HYA survey is available HERE.

HYA has a thorough community engagement process that will take place between March 10 and April 4, 2025, which will include a research based survey and multiple in-person and virtual focus group opportunities. Specifically, see the calendar below that invites your participation:

While interpreters will be available whenever possible, additional sessions will be scheduled to make sure we garner input from families for whom English is not their first language. Also, we will continue specific and targeted outreach over the next week to make sure everyone gets this message to participate. Finally, separate focus group sessions for staff are being scheduled in the coming days.

I state all this to emphasize that your input is vital to the successful hiring of our next superintendent. However, we are concerned people will be confused by informal surveys circulating in the District, and might not then complete the official HYA survey that informs the Board’s selection.
