UPDATE: McCracken Return to School

Dear Skokie 73.5 Families:

Thank you for your continued patience with the electrical service outage. We are reaching out with an update on the progress toward restoring service and with news about school for tomorrow, Friday, September 6, 2024.

At this time, the power at McCracken Middle School has been completely restored and is currently stable. We have worked with our support providers to ensure our electrical and safety and security systems at McCracken are fully operational. Internet connectivity is also fully functional and operating at full capacity.

Now that power at McCracken Middle School has been restored, McCracken will open and operate on its normal in-person schedule beginning tomorrow, Friday, September 6, 2024. Bus service will operate normally at all schools. Lunch service will also operate out of McCracken. Please note that the menu may differ from what was previously communicated. 

Due to the inability of ComEd to identify the origin of the power outage at McCracken this week, we realize that there may be another power outage on Friday and/or in the near future. Due to this small chance, we will operate with extreme caution and have created a contingency plan in the unlikely event this occurs. If we experience another power outage that creates an unstable environment, we might need to implement our evacuation plan, which requires parent/guardian student pick-up at our off-site location. This is ONLY if there is another power outage and at this time. Again, we do not currently have any evidence that would indicate an outage is imminent. However, if we must initiate an evacuation, the school would communicate with families and provide specific information on the procedure and location to pick up your students.

FOR McCRACKEN STUDENTS AND FAMILIES:

• McCracken Middle School students will have in-person school on Friday, September 6, 2024
• Students are expected to attend school at McCracken Middle School following their normal daily schedule.
• Bus service will run at the regular times.
• McCracken doors open at 7:50 a.m. for school which starts promptly at 8:00 a.m.
• Before- and after-school activities will run as scheduled.

We look forward to welcoming our McCracken Middle School students back into the building on Friday, September 6, 2024. 

This situation has posed numerous challenges for our district’s families. We are grateful for your flexibility and patience as we continue working to resolve this service outage.
