Dear Skokie 73.5 Families:

As we head further into the winter months that include the possibility of disruptive weather, we want to keep you informed of our plans for such events.

Due to the power outages on September 3, 4, 5, and 13, 2024, our district used four of the five Remote Learning Days allowed to us in our Illinois State Board of Education-approved E-Learning Plan. Additionally, a fifth Remote Learning Day is pre-scheduled for April 1, 2025, due to our schools serving as polling places for elections.

In the event of disruptive winter weather that leads to the closure of our buildings, we will use our Emergency Days. State law permits us to use five Emergency Days each school year. Emergency Days are not considered school days, so students will not engage in any remote learning. Instead, each Emergency Day used will be added to the end of the school year, per the district’s Board-approved school calendar (see June 3-9, 2025).

If our area experiences winter weather that may require school closure and the use of an Emergency Day, we will make a determination that is in the best interest of students’ and staff members’ safety. We will communicate promptly with all families through email, text message, automated phone call, Facebook, Instagram, and our websites.

Best,

Dr. Zipporah Hightower
