SCHOOL PICTURE DAY
Mark your calendars! Meyer’s Picture Day is scheduled for Friday, September 20, during the school day. Flyers with more details were sent home earlier this week. Question? Please contact the Meyer Office at [email protected] or 847-673-1223.
The Middleton Pride Paw Kick-off Assembly was last Friday, September 6. We officially welcomed all of our Middleton Bulldogs back to school with a beginning-of-the-year assembly. We went over our school-wide expectations to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready. When we earn 600 Pride Paws as a school, we will have an All-Middleton Pajama Party. We’ll announce our Pride Paw Count to students on Monday… stay tuned!
WHITE PINES INFO NIGHT and Q&A
For 5th GRADE families ONLY: Join us for a White Pines Information Night and Q&A session on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Middleton Gym. Hear about the trip, meet the team, and ask questions in person immediately before Back to School Night.
Thank you to all who were able to join the Zoom White Pines meeting this past Monday. If you did not have the chance to attend, a video recording of the meeting will be/has been shared with you, along with the information packet.
MIDDLETON BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Because Middleton Curriculum Night moved to an online format due to the power outage, we have added an in-person event to the Middleton calendar! Please join us on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to visit classrooms and meet Mrs. Paulson and Mrs. Parker.
We welcome all Middleton parents and guardians into school to see classroom spaces and connect with one another. Please know that, because this event was added after we moved Curriculum Night online, it may not be possible for every staff member to attend. If your child’s classroom teacher is unable to be here for Back to School Night, the classroom will still be open to visit and another staff member will be present to welcome you.
Running Club will be hosting a Y-Ties shoelace fundraiser, and Middleton Bulldog T-Shirts will be available for sale! See the invitation for information.
DROP-OFF & PICK-UP REMINDERS
BICYCLES: In these first few weeks of school, some students have been riding bicycles to school. Per the ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL section (page 15) of the Skokie73.5 Student/Family Handbook, Middleton students are not permitted to ride bicycles to school. There is not a safe location for students to lock their bicycles on Middleton property. Thank you for your support with enforcing this safety policy.
DISMISSAL CHANGES: Please make every effort to make dismissal changes before 2:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays). The Middleton office makes dismissal changes to bus attendance sheets throughout the day as they arise. Changes after 2:00 p.m. can cause the need to track down students and confirm their dismissal plan for the day, which can delay dismissal. Thank you for your assistance.
ONLINE ART PORTFOLIOS
Middleton students will once again create digital art portfolios through Artsonia.com. Digital art portfolios provide students with the opportunity to share recently completed artwork with family, write artist statements, and build a collection of artwork to demonstrate their growth throughout the years. You may receive an email from Artsonia regarding your student's art collection with information about connecting to their account. Please email Ms. Beatrice at [email protected] with any questions.
MIDDLETON DATES
ENRICHMENT
Enrich MD brochures are on the way! Fall enrichment offerings are going home with students today! NEW this year, registration will be done online. Skokie Public Library will host a Teen Book Chat with Churros in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month. Students in grades 6-12 are invited to meet in the library's Cosmos Room on Sunday, September 15 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Hear about recent books by Latine authors and enjoy some delicious churros! Registration is required on the library's website.
Ms. Gammeri and Ms. Alvarado will host a Multilingual Book Cafe at Skokie Public Library on Saturday, September 21 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. The event is intended to be a fun chance to celebrate the multilingualism of Skokie and share the joy of reading with the wider community. A number of McCracken Middle School students will use their language and leadership skills to make the event a success, but anyone is welcome to join us! This program is possible due to a generous grant from the Skokie Community Foundation and The Education Foundation of Niles Township; we are grateful to them for the support. Tap the flyer for more information!
LATINX CLUB
Did you know McCracken has a Latinx student club? Ms. Alvarado sponsors this after-school club at McCracken Middle School. Latinx Club is a space for students to learn about, share, and celebrate Latinx and Hispanic heritage and culture. All students are welcome to join! The first meeting is on Monday, September 16 at 3:00 p.m.
ACTIVITY BUS REGISTRATION
To begin the year, McCracken students involved in extracurricular activities have been able to ride the activity bus with a temporary pass from their club/activity sponsor. After next Friday, September 20, students must be registered and pay for this service to be able to ride. Families can pay for activity bus transportation (and other activities) by using this payment guide. Students who ride the activity bus are required to know their bus stop on the McCracken Activity Bus Route as there is no staff supervision on the bus. Students should know that the stops on the activity bus route may be different from the stops on the normal bus routes.
SCHOOL SNACKS
- To help ensure the health and safety of all students, all classrooms in District 73.5 are peanut- and tree nut-free zones.
- This means students and staff should not bring peanut- or tree nut-containing products for snacks.
- In the cafeteria, students may bring food containing peanuts and tree nuts.
- We have a nut-free lunch table in the cafeteria for students to use.
- Please refer to the Skokie73.5 Student & Family Handbook FOOD SERVICE/NUTRITION section (page 26) for a list of healthy classroom snack ideas.
- 8th grade is the only grade level which has a dedicated snack time to account for their late lunch period (12:43-1:25 p.m.)
8th GRADE INFORMATION
PSAT Assessment
- The PSAT 8 assessment for McCracken 8th grade students will be administered at Niles North High School on Saturday, October 26.
- Students will be assigned to an AM (8:00-11:30) or PM (12:00-3:30) session.
- Specific times will be shared by Niles North in the near future.
- All 8th graders planning to enroll at Niles North High School are expected to take the PSAT 8, the first high school level exam in the SAT Suite of Assessments.
- The PSAT 8 establishes a baseline measurement for college and career readiness as a student enters high school. The exams in the SAT Suite of Assessments measure a student's strength in reading, writing/language, and mathematics. Monitoring these same skills at different grade levels allows students, parents, and educators to monitor a student's progress.
- This assessment is free of charge and given to junior high (middle school) students in the fall of the year prior to high school registration. Results from this test, along with other metrics, will be used for proper 9th grade course placement.
- The College Board website has several resources about the PSAT 8.
- Should you have any questions or want additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to District 219 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Christine Gonzales at [email protected] or 847-626-3870.
- More information to follow in the near future!

Equity Mission Statement
WE BELIEVE that inclusivity and belonging is the foundation for equity.
ALL CHILDREN CAN LEARN, at high achievement levels, when equity is infused into every aspect of education.
WE ACKNOWLEDGE the systemic inequities present in school systems and recognize the impact they continue to have on marginalized communities.
WE COMMIT to teaching, learning, and growing in order to identify and dismantle inequitable systems and to create a community where barriers are removed so that everyone can reach their full potential.
WE BELIEVE that students succeed when they can see themselves represented in our staff, curriculum, opportunities, and our shared environment. We accomplish this through professional development, curriculum revision, community engagement, and systems evaluations.
WE RECOGNIZE the need to teach our students to identify the origins of unjust systems and empower them to use their critical thinking skills and agency to responsibly disrupt the policies and practices that perpetuate inequalities.
